Sugar Chestnut

Here's a color plate for a future issue of Cartoon Cuties (issue 10, to be exact). The scene is C.B. International Pictures starlet Sugar Chestnut discussing one of her first cartoons and how different it is to work at C.B.I.P. where she isn't required to wear "fuzzy-face" makeup because it's the one movie studio to start showcasing female cartoon characters as glamor figures rather than the traditional comedy animal approach. I worked very hard to give my characters a unique look which stood apart from the traditional aesthetic seen in Sugar's blow-up here. In time, I found myself wishing I'd embraced the traditional cartoon look rather than trying to counter it. There's something much more comfortably cute about the traditional look, something I was trying to capture while avoiding it completely!
